Shuttle Cube Cases...any good?

Hey guys, I was wondering where I could get one of these thigns for cheap and if it would do for what I want it...I want to get a nice LAN box up with a 2500+(oc for sure!!), Shuttle mATX nforce2, 2x512mb XMS pc3200 LL, ATI Radeon 9500 Pro(or comparable), highpoint SATA RAID card and 2x36gb WD Raptors, and a 52x liteon burner...is this feasable in the cube case? How is the PSU in one of them, and how easy is it to find a new one if not? I really don't want to spend too much on the case, as I can get a regular case for much cheaper and probably easier, but if this idea is feasable it would be sooo much easier for my needs.

im not sure about all that in the little cube case. all i have is the sk41g and it doesnt officially support 333, just 266. but you could try excaliberpc.com they have a nice selection of cubes there from shuttle.

You are lookign to cram a lot of stuff ina shuttle cube. They are fairly small. If you have ever seen one you'll know waht I am talking about .

I have a Shuttle SK41G, XP 1800 Palomino Core, Liteon 48X CD-RW, Maxtor 60 GB HDD.

the chip hovers around 56C so the cooling on the poor guy is not really the best. Airflow sucks and well it's loud 🙂 The fan is horrible 🙁 Way louder then my main box which has 6 fans in it. I guess you could cut down on the noise if you removed some fan grills.

Raptor Raid in a shuttle cube is just asking for trouble. A Radeon 9500 would work fine in the Unit as I am using a TI 4400. They are Small Form Factor not Micro ATX.

Thanks
Phil

You're going to have heat problems overclocking that 2500+. I haven't bought one of the SN41G2's yet, but I have build my own low-profile system which has only a small amount more internal space. I'm running a 2200+ and it's pretty hot. You'll be able to cool the CPU just fine, but the hard drive will give off a lot of heat. So will that video card. You won't be able to fit both of those hard drives I don't think. Maybe if you don't have a floppy drive it will work, but I'm not sure. Your biggest problem will again be the heat, two drives is hotter than 1.

PSU is fine from what I hear. You should be able to run all of that hardware. You might want to figure out another fan solution to get more cool air into the case since the ambient temp will be pretty hot. Maybe as hot as your CPU with all that hardware you are proposing.

Then SN41G2 and I think SN51?? have the nForce2 chipset and take faster AMD chips. New at Newegg.com for about $300 or more. Not many used ones on the market for less than that....

You might consider looking at a micro-ATX case that lets you have full-height cards. That way you still get a smaller system, although not as small as the Shuttle XPC, but still smaller. You can then have more room for fans and devices that give off the heat.

yeah I just realized it was gonna have more problems than initially though, and the mobo doesn't offer any voltage control or anything...also, I don't need a floppy as I have a USB one if at all needed. I am now looking at an Antec LAN Boy, significantly larger but won't have near as many incompatibility issues. Does anyone have any experience with the Lan Boy? thanks for all the help

I have the SK41G with a Tbred 1700+, an Nvidia Quadro4 280 NVS video card, the 52X Liteon CDRW, and a Maxtor 60 gig HD also. My temps are around 42-44, and this thing is not nearly as loud as the Evercase midtower with 3 80MM fans that I used before.

I'm running an SK41G with tbred 1700+, no video card yet, 48x CDRW, and mator 40 gb hd. it makes aobut the same amount of noise as my old Dell Dimension. the speed is real nice for a small little thing but my temps are around 48 C. i think i may have put on too much thermal grease; i'd like my temp at around 45 C... but my temps might be high because we arent using AC in here and it is about 85 F outside.

i got my case from excaliburpc for $170 after rebate and free shipping.

Sn41g2 - 2500xp @ 183fsb / 2.0 ghz. I have a ti4200, 30gb 7200 drive and a lg combo drive. The raptor whilw mean no floppy and do you really need 2? Anyway the case is good - can be a little loud - I helped further cool mine by adding a 1U heatsink on top of the Icepipe cooler.
