Shuttle compatibility with Linux?

My friend is interested in buying a Shuttle, but will only do so if it is compatible with Linux i.e. he doesn't want to buy one only to have to waste his PCI slot for a NIC. Does anybody know if Shuttle is compatible with Linux and if so, have you had good luck with it?
