Shuttle AS45GTR takes forever to boot

I replaced my unsatisfying Asus P4S8X with a Shuttle AS45GTR.
IDE RAID (when I get to it) and built-in 1394 (which most other boards don't offer).

I am mostly happy - except - the board takes over TWO MINUTES to boot.
It gets past the splash screen, IDE devices and IRQs, to the Win boot chooser,
then goes blank for TWO MINUTES.

Even booting to a floppy takes that long. No error message.

P4-2.4B, 512 Mb PC2700, RAID disabled

Can anyone help? - or suggest another place to try?

Thx, MarsGuy.

Are you using the on-board raid??? If not turn it off in the BIOS. Also turn off any other ports you don't use, that way the OS will not look at them or scan them on booting.

I think someone had a better answer to this problem before so look around or if someone remembers.

Dissable all boot-up devices in bios except HD-0, dissable boot-up floppy seek and boot other device.
Also make sure your CPU L2 cache is enabled. You also may have a bad CD rom or other IDE device.

You might want to get into bios and choose the "load Optomized Defaults" and start from there.

It turns out it was my 250Mb USB Zip drive that was causing the problem.
The AS45GTR properly recognized it during POST and handled it OK in Win2K, but
unplugging it prior to boot produced a normal Win or DOS start without
any delay.

Anyone know why?
