Is that a mobile or desktop 2500+ Barton?

All desktop Bartons were factory locked after about production week 32 of last year. If you've got a Barton made after this week, the multiplier is factory locked and the only way you can OC is by increasing the FSB.

I'm not sure about the different PCB colors, but here's my code from my 2500+

AXDA2500DKV4D
PQZEA 0332 MPMW
1999 AMD

The code will be shown on the top of CPU with a black sticker and white letters. The 0332 in bold means it was produced during Week 32 of the Year 03 (2003). The PQZEA is the stepping of the chip. Some steppings overclock better than others.

While the multiplier is locked, this doesn't mean you've got a bad chip. Alot of the 2500+ can hit 11x200 with a slight voltage increase, and you'll be running at 2.2Ghz (3200+ speeds). Just up the FSB and see how far you can go. You may need to up the CPU and memory voltage to make it stable at the higher speeds.

Just crank the FSB to 200MHz and be done with it.

If you could adjust the multiiplier using the A78NX board, then that chip is unlocked.

What chipset is the Shuttle board? Nforce2? As far as I know, only the Nforce2 boards (and newer) are able to adjust the multiplier in the BIOS.

Have you tried using software to change the multiplier like Clockgen

if only 12.5 worked, it's a freak. Doesn't mean it is unocked

Apparently, he said the multiplier worked up to 12.5x, not just 12.5. Therefore, it's an unlocked chip.

ok here are the numbers from this chip

axda2500kv4d z413767d42374 (first row up top)

KQYHA0415VPGW

google did come up with anything. is this a good chip to overclock or not? all i have is a stick of corsair xms pc2700 that goes up to 210mhz to pair it up with.

I stand corrected. Since that chip was produced during Week 15 of this year, it's got to be locked.

<--- apparently is a dumba$$ :D
