Hi!

I wanted tu upgrade my PC. That's what I bought:

Shuttle AN35N-Ultra
2x 256 MB Kingston Hyperx 3200
Antec TruePower 430
ThermalTake Volcano 12 Extreme
AMD Athlon XP +2500

MY PROBLEM:

The only way I can get that combo to boot is when I set the BIOS to fail-safe. My XP is then an +1100, the FSB is 100, and so on. As soon as I change something in the BIOS (and if it is just one 101 on FSB) it won't even POST and I got to clear my CMOS with jumper. The nforce2 trick with insert or delete while boot doesn't work either. CPU temp is 30 °C.

I changed the RAMs and put them in all slots = no change.
Put in a 133 RAM = no change.
Took all out of the board but gfx, CPU and floppy = no change.
Changed gfx = no change.

The only thing left now is to change the CPU to my old Palomino Xp +2000.

Guys, I really need your help. I'm writing this from a 28.8k modem on my friends machine. While I was changing the gfx I
broke one small transistor, so my gfx is crap now (GeForce Ti4200). So this has been a very bad day for me!

Thx guys, I count on u!

I feel your pain.... I just built one and it started off real buggy, but I didn't have a Barton so I can't say the problem I had would be related to yours. After 3 failed attempts to get it set up or even format I finally checked the BIOS and saw a June '03 date. I had planned to upgrade that anyway once I got it loaded but then decided to stop there and go for the update. I flashed it and everything went perfectly smooth after that. It's been up for about 4 days now and totally solid so far. I wouldn't think just having an older BIOS would have caused me so much trouble but flashing it did the trick. Hope it does the same for you. Please post a reply and let us know what you found.

Latest News:

- I flashed with the latest BIOS but that didn't help at all.

- I managed to install WinXP-Pro with slipstreamed SP1, but it refuses to start other than safe mode, though it gives me no errors whatsoever in safe mode

- Win2k failed

- Win98SE failed

Visiting my local dealer today and try to borrow some other RAMs

I had similar problems with a stick of PC3200 Hyper X...... I couldn't change the FSB!

So I installed a stick of Crucial and now running at 200 FSB no problems at all

Sorry to hear that didn't work for you. I'm using a single stick of PC3200 Corsair VR, FWIW.

I've got one running Buffalo PC3200 CH-5. Rock solid at 214MHz FSB synced running a locked 2500+ Barton with stock cooling. Try the Buffalo. I think they're underrated.

I just shipped one of these out on Monday, but it was running a 1900+ oc'ed to 2100+ at the 266fsb speed, while the PC2700 memory was running at the 333fsb. It is probably a stupid question, but you do have the 4 pin square molex connector plugged in, right? And you have cleared the bios via the jumper?

Yip, both! :D I guess I used the CMOS jumper about 30 times by now ....

What I did by now is that I will return my 2 Kingston Hyper X DDRs and get some Buffaloes or TwinMOS, as they both seem to have the good Winbond chips in certain models. Lots of ppl in different forums suggested these two brands. I found lots of ppl having problems with Kingston Hyper X RAMs on that mobo ... darn!

I borrowed a Infineon 3200 512MB from a friend and with that one I at least managed to install WinXP. But it's latency's r 2 bad ... so I gonna get me some others.

Thx all so far!
