Well I just bought a Shuttle AK31A($80) board for a rig i'm building for my Sister and I must say i'm very impressed so far. I was very skeptical about the "cheapness" factor with Shuttle, man was I wrong, excellent board!

She's not gonna OC, but this board is a screamer for $80.

Yes I agree it is an excellent board. The only reason I bought it was because it was the only KT266A board out when I built my new system. I was happily surprised. One thing I would recommend is, replace the chipset fan. Mine died after 2 weeks. I have never seen such a cheap fan. I replaced it with the Sunon 40mm from Plycon. Just a few days ago I ordered an AK31A for my uncle's new system. I decided not to wait for the fan to fail and bought a replacement with the system. :)

Shuttle has always made excellent boards, even from their 486 days. The reason they are not so popular is because they never OCed well.

If I recall correctly the Shuttle HOT-569 Socket 7 board was one of the first boards that WAS easily overclockable. It was also one of Anand's earliest reviews. I got one of those and it has been running a Pentium 233 @ 266 for more than a few years now.

The AK31A is a very good board. 2 of my personal systems use it, and I'v ebuilt many others for friends, family, and clients.

The 569 was the reason I felt okay with Shuttle this time. That was a great board. My sister still has it running. Been overclocked the whole time too...it should be ready to bake any day now :)
