I'm ordering the Shuttle version of the KT266A chipset and I was wondering if there is any difference between registered and unregistered RAM? Their website says the board can support 3 banks of unregistered RAM or 4 banks of registered RAM. I have unregistered ECC RAM right now. Should I return it and get registered instead? Are there any performance issues I should be aware of? Any info would help. Thanks.

go to the www.crucial.com website, there is a good explanation of terms somewhere.

Anyway...you need registered or ECC ram ONLY if you run a server etc., for normal use use non-registered and non-ECC ram. Dont know if it degrades performance if you use ECC ram instead of non-ecc...don't think so...

I just bought the same board, i'm considering buying some PC2700 from Twinmos or OCZ, i've heard that they hit 166 FSB without a hitch.....but then again, they're twice the price as crucial RAM.
