Dear Shuttle Support

I am in the process of buying a processor for this motherboard. I have researched many web references to prescott Pentiun 4 and this motherboard.
They are conflicting with the manual page 25.

One of the web community sites say a bios upgrade will allow prescott use?
Is this true? I would like to use a 3.0 G but most I see are prescott.

I like many other purchasers (who don't already have a processor yet) would like to know. And how to tell the difference when we buy a processor if it is compatible? (Northwood or Prescott or Willmanette )

Your site:

http://global.shuttle.com/Support/SupportList.asp?Item=AB60R

Remark Says:
Willamette/Prescott/Celeron D processor are not supported.

Manual clearly states Socket 478 :CPU Socket for Pentium 4 Northwood/Prescotte processors page 25

Please Help
Thanks

The CPU socket IS for Northwood and Prescott. But the motherboard around the CPU socket doesn't support Prescott.

There are a few Northwood chips being sold on the FS/FT forum here, just look around.

I don't quite understand this part of your reply.

cajerry, in a few words, there are differences between Northwood and Prescott in regards to the VRM (voltage regulator module). The VRM on your board was designed before Prescott was a known quantity. It "may" work on a Prescott, but isn't supported by either Shuttle or Intel.

Did you get this on special from Mwave? ;) I got one also. Yep, does NOT support Prescott. I think that's why they were dumping them on the market.

Can anyone out there verify the prescott pentium 4 use for this motherboard version 2.0

Thanks

Here are some reviews from the techbargains website for find lowest price>motherboards

" Strengths: Hyperthreading, Sata, firewire, gigabit lan, RAID, dual channel DDR 400, 800FSB.

Weaknesses: Questionable support for Prescott core.

Summary: Very nice board with lots of nice features. It uses genuine Intel 865PE chipset. Good Hyperthreading board at a very reasonable price. The newer versions are V2.0 and are said to support the Prescott CPUs. I'm running a 2.8Ghz Northwood and it's very stable. Highly recommended.

Summary: If you have a northwood or prescott processor, this is one of the best choices out there. consider the 1394 interface, the network card and the SATA alone, they are well worth the price you pay.

Strengths: Versatile board. with 1394, 8 usbs, G Lan, 4 memeories slots. It includes all that can be made into a single board. 2.Can support Prescott cpu with bios upgrade. 3. many accessories inside box
Weaknesses: can not overlock much as my previous MSI board

Summary: I got this board just for just $25 from mwave.com, and am very satisfied with what I got. This board is well made, and use good material.

Actually material is always my first impression, and I believe the material is a very important part to decide the performance. As we know, many manufacture use some cheap material to lower their price, even they always seem to have a same specification with some prestigious brand. But this is not case for this shuttle board.

when I put this board with my MSI board, in term of material or workmanship, I found they must be manufactured in the same standard, and they both are better than my other SOYO 865pe board.

It is easy to make it work, and the manual has everything. there work as perfect as any good board should be, but its overlock is not as stong as MSI board. I can overlock my p4 2.8 into 3.6 with MSI, but 3.4 with this board. So if you do not want to overlock to the extrem, this shuttle board is better for its 1394 and G lan.

By the way, their accessories are charming, one usb and one 1394 brackets. "

If the motherboard manufacturer says that the lesser version (no firewire or secondary RAID?) supports Prescott but this one does not, I wouldn't bank on it unless it was verified.
