Shutting down on it's own

I came home last night to find that the computer was shut off. No clocks flashing in the house so I ruled out an extremely short duration power outage.

I turned the computer on and the BIOS screens showed no drives recognized. All are SATA, two HD's and one Optical. I of course got a message that no boot device was found, etc.

Tried again, same message. I flipped the rocker switch on the back of the PS off, waited a short while and flipped it back. Drives were recognized and the computer booted. I shrugged it off.

Ran out this morning for a while and returned to the exact same situation. The same procedure "fixed" it. The only thing I see in Event Viewer is "The previous system shutdown at (date and time) was unexpected."

Has anyone got any thoughts on this? I have my suspicions, but I don't want to poison the waters.

Yep its definatly a PSU issue. Replace it ASAP before it goes out hard and possibly damages the rest of your system.

Yup, you guys were right. Because of some other niggling issues, I assumed it was the motherboard. They were intermittent. I'll have to see if they get corrected with the replacement PS in place.

Thanks to you both!

Edit: I went to the Enermax website and their Power Supplies have a 3 year warranty. I've had it since November of 2006, so I've initiated an RMA. Pretty happy about that. It's a 500W modular, so it's worth paying the shipping to them.

Don't tell me you have an Enermax Liberty. If thats the case do not get another one. They are known for having these kinds of failyers. I suggest you spend the money on anotehr good quality PSU.

Well, more good advice I think. I'm wondering what they would replace it with. Surely they're not still selling problem children?

Hmm, I bought it at ZZF, but I see that Newegg is still carrying the exact same model. Any chance they've corrected the problem on the newer ones? I've seen RMA's come with only a one year warranty. That would work out well for them.

I should call them tomorrow and decide from there.
