Shutdown is not working, it just restarts the comp.

I have windowsXP pro on a new Abit NF7-s and when I choose shutdown it just restarts the computer. any thoughts?

I had this problem way back when XP first came out. As I recall it was caused by a driver or software conflict. I think it may have been Easy CD Creator that was the problem. It was corrected with an update to the program. I guess this is a common occurence with XP if something isn't exactly right.

I notice that you have a Nforce 2 based mobo, do you by any chance have a PCI Display Card?

yes, I'm using a Radeon 32 meg AIW. why do you ask?

I an NOT using EZcd creator. I am using Nero 5.5

I suggest you do the following:
right click on my computer-Properties
there click on advanced-startup and recovery
disable automatic reboot

the next time you try to shut down your computer you will probably get an error message about nv_agp.sys. This is some kind of a driver conflict with Nforce2 mobos and PCI display cards, I had the same problem and the error went away when i deleted the file. However, you will need the file if you install a AGP card in the future.
