shutdown and turning off computer

When i had win98 installed about a month ago, 😛 , everytime i go to start>shutdown>shutdown, the computer will shutdown and the whole system with turn off by itself. Now i have winxp installed, and everytime i shutdown my computer, the black shutdown screen comes on and tells me its safe to turn off the computer, and i have to hold the same computer on/off switch for 5 damn seconds. I am tired to holding the stupid button, i want the system to shutoff like it used to with 98. is there a way to do that in xp?
