That is because it now costs as much (or more) to make a AAA video game as it does to make a Hollywood movie, and they have a fraction of the marketshare (a PG/PG13 movie has 130-140million in the US alone which might consider watching the movie, but a AAA PS4 game will only have 60million people in the WORLD which might consider buying the game).
However, there are games that make money on scales that Hollywood only dreams of. Look at the release of GTA5 and how much money that generated in a week. It's not the norm and I get your point but, there is loads of money to be made in video games, maybe more than any other entertainment venue out there.
