Shut down problem

My system consists of Gigabyte GA-7DXR+ with AMD xp1800 and 256MB PC2100 DDR Ram. OS is WinXp. When I shut down, the OS will save my work. But before the saving is completed, the computer shuts down. Nest time when I start the computer, the system will check my harddrive because of improper shutdown. How can I solve this problem? Thank you.
