shut down problem on windows XP?

I just got a new mobo and a new case, and I formatted my HD and reinstalled windows XP.

However, I noticed when I try to shut down windows, it usually reboots the computer instead of shutting it down, or sometimes it shuts down the windows, turns off the HD but the rest of the components remain on. (optical mouse, mobo fans, case fans, etc)

Did I connect something wrong? Or Is this a software related problem that can be fixed via some system tweaking?

It actually sounds like something is crashing when you shut down. What do you have running on your system?

not much really.

norton virus system works 2002, zonealarm, ATI control panel, style xp, system diagnostics that came with the mobo (8rda+), itouch... XP SP 1...

can't think of much else.

System:

EPOX 8RDA+
XP 2400
Sound Blaster Audigy
Radeon 8500

Maybe try Hibernate if you dont want to reinstall

Right-click My Computer and go to "Manage." Check the event viewer for any application or system failures.

Don't know why you are having that problem.

You might try this fast shutdown shortcut, maybe it will work for you:

Copy this line line:

%windir%\System32\shutdown.exe -s -t 01

Now right-click on your desktop and select new shortcut, paste that line into the box, hit next.
It creates a fast shutdown shortcut.

Now, if your system is rebooting due to system failure at shutdown, you mught try changing the setting for system failure from "reboot."
Do that by righ=clicking on My computer, got to Advanced,Startup and Recovery - Settings, uncheck Automatically Restart on system failure.

ok it turns out its a driver irql not less or equal problem....

turned off auto-restart and got a BSOD saying its kbdclass.sys' problem.

now what do I do? =T

It sounds like the iTouch software is crashing. You can try uninstalling it and reinstalling the latest version. I have to warn you though, the iTouch v2.15 software causes a really long shutdown time. The Logitech FTP site has a registry fix for it, I think. Just go to ftp.logitech.com and browse to the keyboard and itouch folders. You should be able to find it there.
