Shure e2c cable ripping

Got myself a pair of Shure e2c headphones, but over the months a part of the cable, specifically, the right earphone's tip area cable, has been starting to rip. It still works, but its barely held together, as the black layer has ripped open.

Do I just patch this up with electrical tape?

You need to get electrical tape.

I've pulled my sony fontopias out of my bakcpack once and the wire scraped against the zipper causing like 4 inches of deformed rubber and some ripped areas. Works fine with electrical tape (although it does tend to come undone, so I added some scotch tape on top)

send it back on Warranty

Can you actaully use the warranty for this? I don't really know who's fault it was, I usually am pretty careful with my electronics.

This is why I don't get expensive headphones....

I lost 3 silicone cushions for my MDR-EX51s within a month or two. I had like unbalanced big/medium cushions in my ear.

I rolled over my Panasonic noise cancelling earbuds with my office chair and it killed the right earbud which i taped together and used it for another 6 months before dying.

The insulation for my MDR-EX71s is ripped at 4 - 5 points at least. There's so much tape on them....

I'm back to my MDR-EX51s after I found them hidden behind my desk. Swapped the cushions with my 71s and now this is a good set to use... Let's see how long they will last.

Email their tech support to see if warranty covers that type of damage.
If they send a positive email response, ship w/ a print out of email.

I did that for my Labtech .45 headphones. I accidentally vacuumed the cables and it got cut up, but not too deep.

Called Shure tech support just now, and surprisingly, it is covered. Just gotta send it back, don't even need an RMA #.
