Showerhead stopped working?

WTF?!

it went from full power to 0. there was no indication there was a problem w/the showerhead.

when i take the showerhead off, water flows from the pipe.

i bought a new showerhead. works fine.

but how/why did it go from full spray to 0 flow?

Nemo is in your potable water bunker and he is mad. He's got an unlimited supply of kalkwasser and that's clogging your sprinkler's small orifices.

Hard water deposits or sediment in the line has clogged either your nozles or filter screen.

Only soak in CLR/Limeaway if it's not metal/chromed or it will oxidize the metal.

other wise, clean with needle and water.

mine at home has a little pushbutton on it to shut it off (dunno why) - you might want to check to see if yours has one that got pushed

Just enough minerals to stop the flow. I've had it happen over the years.

Yup....probably because the utilities company was doing work and some dirt and tiny rocks got into the pipes and is now clogging your shower head.

Calcium Carbonate precipitation.

soak in vinegar or CLR as others said.

-edit- one really needs to do this once a year anyway.

Lather valve. To save water but preserve temperature if you don't have a fancy regulator that's separate from the shut off valve.

A burp in the main can do this and stir up particulate matter such that it makes it all the way through to the house. Installation of at least a polycord filter cart on the main line takes care of that. I'm shocked at the number of folks that just allow the water to flow from the "main vein" without no filtering whatsoever. :Q

yeah, but if it were mineral deposits, wouldnt the water flow slowly start degrading? instead of full water flop then ZERO flow?

Hit it. Hit it real good.

LOL, I've heard of people doing this (with a shoe) and shearing off the nipple causing a full stream of water to discharge horizontally striking the bulkhead behind them. See the part in "Gone Fishing" where Joe pulls the pipe apart above the crapper stall for an idea.

Pretty pathetic to be discussing plumbing on a computer forum! :Q

The pipes that supplies water to my showerheads are bent downward...

Yes but that 45 deg nipple is what breaks. It's often chrome plated brass and the brass is rather weak where the NPT is cut on the supply side. A good whack with a shoe will do it.

I bet theres a ceramic control valve in the head that slows the flow to save water and its broken, and the water pressure now makes it block the flow completely. I had this happen with a tap once, there might not be any way to fix it other than replace the showerhead.
