I'm on a T1 line right now, but the truth is I'm no where near t1 speed. I ran the internet bandwidth test, and I can only get around 140kbps.
I need some connection speeed tweak tips from you techies out there

Is it deditated or shared with other people? If it's being used by quite a few people at once, you won't get very much.

Go play around on the dslreports.com tests. They work for anything, I use them to test and tweak my cable modem connection. The tweaks section can test and show what tweaks should work good, you may also want to do a speed test to see how fast it says your lines are. Then you can go to the tweak that really works (MTU is a bunch of crap), adjust your RWIN setting with the provided registry tweaks. You may want to read all the technical junk though instead of using their 60 second solution, since if you open the RWIN up too much it will also cause problems. By adjusting my RWIN window from 16KB to 64KB it sent my connection from 40x a 56k modem to 60x a 56k modem. However, if you have lots of packet loss on your line it isn't the best tweak to use, since you will be losing larger packets of data, slowing things down even more.

jing- It might be a fractional T1 also. ;)

I'd check into that with your sys admin.

damn, gotta try that tweak when i get home. I just had a sprint broadband wireless connection installed at home. it's supposed to be 1.544 mb down and 256k up, when i tested on the dslreports.com site i get 800/56 .. but then downloaded winamp and got only 14k/sec...

you should see this antenna they installed, it's 50' high!! they said it has to have line of site over one mountain to the transmission tower that's on top of another mountain...sigh

Or worse, it may not be a REAL T-1. It may be a frame-relay sold in a T-1 speed but you are NOT guaranteed to get anything at all since Frame Relay is a lot cheaper than a real T-1. It also depends on the host you are d/ling from as well.
