Kerry Opts Out of Public Financing for Primaries

<snip>
Kerry becomes the second Democratic presidential candidate to abandon the system, but unlike rival Howard Dean, he plans to keep his spending to the $45 million limit the program imposes for the primaries. He will not follow its state-by-state limits.

"He changed the rules of this race and anybody with a real shot at the nomination is going to have to play by those rules," Kerry said during a campaign stop in Iowa.

You know, Cad, one of the things I've always liked about you is your signature. You know, the part about Reagan saying ""the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they are ignorant, but that they know so much that isn't so." And this coming from a guy who used to get things that happened in movies confused with things that happened in reality. There's a famous story about him talking about a soldier -- turns out it was a role in a movie. Linda Wortheimer of National Public Radio termed his deposition about Iran Contra connection, "What Ronald Reagan didn't know and when he didn't know it." Someone else on this board publishes one of his lines about "My heart says it's true but my head knows it isn't." As a speaker, he was phenomenal, but his contact with reality was tenuous. And of all his saying, you picked the one where he said liberals know so much that isn't so.

By the way, Kerry was one of the Democrats who voted to give George a blank check for the war and is now saying, "Gee, I didn't know he'd do that." 50,000 anti-war demonstrators in San Francisco knew it, but Kerry didn't.

Yes, I know how Kerry voted, but this is news about his decision to bypass public funding rules. He claims he will stay under the $45 million pledge but isn't going to follow state spending rules.

I put the thing in about how Kerry voted to meet the call of the question. The thread was about Kerry.

You're just gonna let the long paragraph go about how sucko mochello it is to use the Reagan quote? And it is lame.

Yes, it's about Kerry and people know his stance for and then against this war.
*********

Anyway here's a bit of an update:
linky
There was some confusion again Friday as the Kerry campaign said the candidate would take out a personal loan, but Kerry said in Iowa that he had not made a decision. In a telephone interview with the AP, Kerry sought to clarify, saying he would use his personal money, in the millions of dollars, and would do so through a loan. Declining to provide a figure, he said he will spend "as appropriate."
