Is this a good idea? I'm trying to convince a family that shoving four full sized adults into a chevy silverado pickup extended cab is a bad idea. The mother believes that the rear seats are meant for any body and that putting an adult there is OK but I say it's very unsafe to do especially if they don't fit.

You can certainly do it. But I wouldn't want to for much longer than half an hour. Any longer and you really start missing the leg room. It's not any worse than being shoved in the back of a Civic. Yeh...you can do it...but you really don't want to be the guy in the back.

As far as safety goes, so long as there are seatbelts, it's not *that* much of a concern. I'd rather take a hit in a pickup than a civic.

If there are seatbelts and the people in the back don't have to sit sideways to be comfortable it should be fine.

Probably no worse than being in the back seat of an econobox. Actually safer in a situation where the vehicle is rear ended.

Wouldn't being in a econobox where your legs can actually face forward with out it touching the front seat instead of spread out at 180* like in the back of that pickup. I'm 6'2 and I'm telling you, it's extremely uncomfortable and when I was presented with the idea of being like that for an hour ride I complained about how unsafe it would be and how treating it like a regular seat is a very BAD idea...

The back seat in an extended cab pickup would be fine for adults for very short trips.

I wouldn't want to ride back there for more than an hour at a time, though. Not alot of knee room, and the seat back is almost straight up.

Also, a lot of those don't have headrests on the back seats, so if you get into a collision, there's nothing between your head and the back window.

Unsafe? I doubt it. Uncomfortable? Most likely, especially if the trip is of any length and/or any of the back seat occupants are very tall or very large.

I'm thinking more about the huge crumple zone compared to a car, but I wouldn't want to ride there for five minutes, let alone an hour!

i was working one day, and i noticed 4 people pile out of an extended cab pickup.... a short time after that, i realized that they were in the store and being helped by my manager, and he felt the need to come over and tell me that they were incredibly stoned, very noticably... one of the guys was just standing my a boombox rocking out to the classic rock that was playing.

thought you guys might like to know that.

If there aren't seatbelts, it's illegal in Oregon to have more than 3 adults in the cab of a truck if the truck doesn't have a back seat.

My son has one of those trucks and four adults fit quite well.

Your definition of full sized is what=== four hundred pounders?

It's not unsafe but it is uncomfortable, especially if they're supersized.
