I just finished an auction on eBay. It was for some industrial surplus parts. Anyway, the wining bidder emails me his address (as requested) His email is ALL CAPS! I respond to him with the shipping cost, and his reply is in ALL CAPS! Again. The guy seems to be intelligent, and has a good rating with eBay, but he just doesn't get it. In my last reponse to him, all the way on the bottom of the email, I included a link to email etiquette. Maybe he'll get the point. (Or, maybe he was using some sort of PDA device and had caps locked on or something... ? and I'm being rude???)

I don't understand how some people CAN GO ALL DAY TYPING IN CAPS AND NOT THINK ANYTHING IS WRONG. THE WORST IS WHEN THEY FORGET TO USE PUNCTUATION THEIR SENTENCES TURN INTO HUGE BLOCKY MASSES AND THEN THEY SART MAKEING SPELLING ERORS !!!!!!!!

I usually just email them saying that I refuse to exchange any more emails with them until they learn wtf the caps lock key does. :|

OH I DONT KNOW I THINK YOU COULD MAKE A CASE FOR USING ALL CAPITAL LETTERS IF YOU REALLY WANTED TO HECK YOU COULD EVEN MAKE AN ARGUMENT FOR NO PUNCTUATION IT SURE MAKES IT QUICKER TO WRITE STUFF IN FACT THIS WAS MUCH QUICKER TO WRITE THAN MOST OF MY OTHER RESPONSES AND NOT ONLY THAT BY NOT MAKING SENTENCES AND PARAGRAPHS IT ALSO SAVES ME TIME THE ONLY THING THAT COULD BE QUICKER IS NOT TO RESPOND AT ALL SO THERE YOU HAVE IT ALL IN ONE BIG LONG NUTSHELL :D

Are you really worried about being rude over the internet? Do you think the guy, obviously someone who doesn't know a great deal about net etiquette, will be able to tell if you're being rude? I don't think it is all that rude. It's informative, done in a non offensive manner, and those caps are hard on the eyes.

(And no, I don't advocate being rude online.)

Once I have the payment for the auction and the package sucessfully ships, I more than likely won't ever have contact with the guy again, so I really don't care. After I included the link and sent the email, I started wondering if it may have been improper. I guess not. It's not like I said, "HEY ASSHAT, TURN OFF YOUR CAPSLOCK KEY!!!"
