I downloaded all of the neccessary stuff, or at least what i thought to be all of the neccessary items to run a shoutcast server. I even downloaded the Winamp plug-in for it. I can get the server program to run, and when I load the Winamp plug-in, it connects fine, and uploads to the server program. I am doing this all from the same box also.

The problem has been that people who try to connect to my appearing functional server don't hear anything. They say it buffers, but they don't get any sound. I read the readme that came with the Winamp plug-in and it said ShoutCast needs an MP3 codec!!! Shoutcast didn't say anthing about this, but it must be true, because my server isn't working :(.

If anyone has done this with shoutcast, or thinks they can help, please do :D. Thanks everyone. Lata.

I haven't used shoutcast (I have used Windows Streaming Media) are you sure you have selected the correct sound input source or are you having a connection problem?

If you're using ShoutCAST 1.7, you'll have to upgrade to 1.7.1 because 1.7 is totally messed.

I used 1.7 for a bit and even when I tried to listen to my own server it wouldn't work at first, then I'd hit play again, it would play properly for about 4 seconds then the sound would skip horribly.

Check the bottom of your shoutcast server screen, it should say source stream connected in the right corner. If it doesn't, you need to select the ShoutCAST Source for Winamp under DSP/Effect. When you select this, another Winamp Icon will appear in your Systray. Click that, the ShoutCast source window should appear, hit connect, hit play in Winamp, and all should be good.
