Shouldn't we be focussing on space?

Oh and a question I have for space buffs: what is the next closest system than Alpha Centauri that looks somewhat hospitable? Is Alpha Centauri the closest system or just the one that looks like it could breed life? I know nothing of space... 😛

Alpha centauri is the closest star from us at 4 light years.
We haven't even found if there are planets around it yet.

And you'd need a star to create life, right? Or at least to the degree of intelligent forms?

Wow its kind of crappy that is the closest place 🙁

Do you know what is the next closest star though?

I know that the planets of our solar system have something like 131 moons in total I think... could we use those for resources at all?

I wonder if there are many elements (like in the table of elements) out there we have yet to discover that could be on foreign moons/planets that are nearby (in relative terms of course).

Instead of planning to move to a different planet, shouldn't we focus on protecting and restoring the earth's eco-system and environment??

The two are far from mutually exclusive goals....why must we give up on progress to take care of the environment. :| That is my biggest problem with the environmental movement. Many envies want us to go back to huts....

You are taking it too far as to say we should go back to the huts.
Americans are the most wasteful in the entire world. They do not care how much they use up, they just care about themselves. Americans have more waste, use more power, put out more pollution than the rest of the world combined. And we have about 5% of the entire world's population.
Is it really neccessary to waste that much, use that much power, and put out so much pollution?

No, Americans just need to be more considerate.

If we didn't use more we wouldn't produce more. Sure we have 5% of the worlds population but we also produce more than any other country. If we lower our standards of living the rest of the worlds will drop also. If you want to live in a hut and stand in mud plucking rice like most people in the third word do that's your option. Americans are already considerate we prime the pump that runs the world. 🙂

production takes natural resources which is depletable, not to mention the environmental damage

Lot's of things cause enviromental damage not just humans. The only way to stop causing it is to keep producing so you can pay for the technology it will take to replace the aging ones we are using now. It's takes money to develop Fusion Reactors and better batteries and the other things that we will use in the future. There is only one way to go and that is forward if we go backwards the only future will be death and wars over the depleting resourses.
