Should'nt lifer status be awarded based on length of time (instead of soley on post count)

I've been visiting anandtech since the very beginning and watched it grow into what it is today. So it always puzzles me when I see posters who've been here less than a year with lifer status (not that it bothers me or anything). But I'm just curious why the status attributes are merited primarily by high post counts (some of us low post count old timers would like a cool status too :D).

Also, isn't there a special forum for forum suggestions? -Anandtech Moderator DrPizza ;)

that makes sense, but some of us like to lurk and read and make the occasional remark as opposed to hundreds or thousands of posts every month.

Anyone who uses the nappy-head avatar doesn't qualify for cool status.

thanks for playing...come back next year.

I too have been coming to Anandtech for years and years, but never actually joined until 06 or so.
(my work usually kept me too busy and on the road enough that I didn't have time for forums and such.)
I'd visit, read up on whatever problem I had...then leave until the next time.

well to be fair, activity is what keeps a forum alive. Even though some new guy thats at 10k may not have been here as long, he's doing more to keep it alive than lurkers that post once a month.

I always thought it was short dreds on my avatar, but at this point I'd take nappy hair to the slowy declining memory of my once vibrant head of hair. *looks around the rooms for a hat*

you need both types for a well balanced forum

besides it'll be 2016 before I have enough posts to make lifer status

says the girl with the cool lifer status

seriously, no perks, and nothing to work towards after that. it's the last title you can obtain.

User titles are silly. It's the quality of posts which matters.

Mine's in the crapper...blame it on Jim Beam. :p

that's not automatic. in fact, i would have better luck winning the lottery than obtaining that one. :p

Not really. I mean lurkers might drive up view counts, but posters are viewing the forums just as much but they're keeping the material fresh and interesting. as long as the posters aren't NEFing and are actualy posting interesting things, i'd rather have 50 new posters than 100 old lurkers

I think we should just use a rep system.

We used to have a rating system but it was "abused". I can still see my rating and vote count on my profile but haven't seen where you can vote in years.
