Shouldn't banner ads (none in particular) open a new window?

Am I the only person that has actually clicked a banner ad on this site and realized it doesn't even open up a new window when you actually are bored enough to click it? I mean come on. Someone is clueless out there.

I'm in now way going to click a banner that is first of all:
1. Annoying me at least a little
2. Removes me from my ATOT experience :p

I'm not only refering to the new AT banner but all banners... Don't y'all think the banner creater should heed his/her own patrons and not remove them from his/her web site? I think it is absolutely silly!

I agree. I usually right click > open target in new window anyway because they usually don't open in a new window.

This is not a forum issue. This is general discussion about ads and if people think they should lead to a new window. I gave the new anandtech banner as an example but if you will at least read my post you will see this discussion would not be welcome in the forum issues forum b/c I am talking about all ads/banners.

yes it should, unless its like a tv ad. tv ads take up ur screen so u cant watch ur show anymore, unless you want stuff to pop up like samarah from "the ring." thatd be freaky if she came out of your tv. if thats the case, i prefer to have the ads stay on the screen.

Hrm... I think ads coming off the screen are beyond the scope of this thread ^_^
