Shouldn't 2x2GB DDR2 800 get more than 4.8 Vista rating?

Well, what are the rest of your system specs? Maybe those are affecting the score?

My RAM gets a 5.5, and it's certainly nothing special....just whatever came in my HP.

it's the lowest one.

proc: 5.1
RAM: 4.8
Graphics: 5.9
gaming graphics: 5.9
primary hard disk: 5.6

if your HP ram is 5.5 mine should be at least 5.5... wonder what's wrong...

Try running it in dual channel, that should increase your score from 4.8 to 5.5 like it did mine.

Check your motherboard manual. Some boards require memory sticks to be in alternating slots if only two sticks are used to enable dual channel. For some, this means matching colors, for others, using opposite colors. Generally in the manual there is a page for the proper arragement for enabling dual channel mode.

i just got CPU-Z and it says

Under "Memory"
Type: DDR2
Size: 4096MB
Channels: Dual
DC Mode: Symmetric
DRAM Frequency 408.0MHz <----is that supposed to be 800 or no?
FSB:DRAM 1:2
...

Under "SPD" for Slot 1:
Max Bandwidtch is PC2-6400 (400MHz)
Timings Table
Frequency: 333MHz 400MHz

check your BIOS settings. Sounds like your RAM settings are being read incorrectly.

hmm, i changed bios setting to 2.0V and made the CPU:DRAM ratio 1:4 (816MHz) but CPU-Z still shows the same values.

I have the same weird problem...My ram is 2x2GB of OZC DDR2 800 and the rating keep changing..even if I don't run anything..and it's always between the 4.8 and 5.3. It's set to dual chanel, 2.1v, cl5-5-5-15. The weirdest thing is that my friend with slower ram get higher result than that...

Btw all my other rating are at 5.9.

lol, i guess i won't worry about it then. esp. now that I know that it's supposed to be 400MHz (i had thought it was supposed to be 800)

Yeah my Corsair Value DDR1 2GB got 5.9 and my new Kingston 4GB kit gets 5.9 as well.

How are you guys even getting 5.5 or 4.8? I think I had a better score with my DDR-400 MarkVision sticks

Actually, I found a similar situation in my machine. running 4x2Gb DDR2-800, I got a 5.5, but as soon as I took it up to DDR2-802, it went to 5.9. I think Vista sometimes cant work out what its doing with the RAM score, as all my other scores were stable.

The experience index is a pretty immature rating system anyways, it tells you little to nothing about the actual performance of your computer.

Check your timings in the bios... I'm guessing it might be that the timings are set really loose by your motherboard. If they are loose try setting them to the specs on your ram.

Stop worrying about the vista scoring, it tends to be wrong anyway; the only time you should be worried is if you see a performance loss.

Also yes CPU-Z is correct your ram is indeed 400Mhz, your forgetting that ram is double pumped.

Vista "Scores" have become much like 3DMark "Scores".

Quit worrying about synthetic "benchmarks" so much.

My 4x1GB 533MHz DDR2 ECC memory gets 5.1. I'd say your memory score is lower than I would expect, and regardless of whether it's a synthetic benchmark or not, it's a little weird that it would be that low.

My scores:
Processor: 5.4 (C2D E6700, not OC'd)
Memory: 5.1 (4x1GB 533MHz DDR2 Crucial ECC)
Graphics: 5.9 (512MB 8800GT)
Gaming graphics: 5.9 (512MB 8800GT)
Primary hard disk: 5.9 (Hitatchi 750GB)
