*Should zakee00 get better cooling for his 6800GT?*

Hey all,
I have my 6800GT oced to ultra speeds. i can_not go any higher or else i get artifacts in ATItool. i tried Thugsrook's amazing GTU bios, and all it did was raise my temps.
Here are my temps:
Idle- 49C
Load- 76C-79C

If I got better cooling (something like this or this or this)
do you think I can OC any higher? Should I get better cooling anyway because my temps are too high? Also, I've heard many bad things about the NV5, but quite a few good things as well. What do you think? I'm not really concerned with noise (as long as it's bareable); just cooling performance.
Thanks alot guys, I would appreciate real world experences
Nick

Does your card not perform the way you want it to perform? If you don't need the extra oc, why spend more money?

thats what im asking...i want a better oc and will spend the $30 to get it; but do you guys think that im sorta running in the danger zone anyway? too high temps?

76 was too hot for me, but I already had built-in cooling on my card so I just turned it up. More cooling is always better.

I'd go NV5. Though it didn't really help my OC that much, but I really just wanted to quiet my card down.

I just bought the VF700-AlCu cause my 6600GT is hitting 80C during load, and that's just simply too hot for me. Reviews I've seen show load temps on the 6600GT dropping from 80C to 55C using the VF700, so I think that's a good bet. I don't know if I'll be overclocking more or not, i don't think heat is the issue with overclocking, the card just runs hot no matter what. I recommend the VF700 cause it is compatible with pretty much all newer cards, and probably future ones, too, so it's a good investment. I'll probably transfer mine to my new video card in a year or so.

Are you having an identity crisis zakee 🙂?

yeah, talking about zakee00 in the third person, changing his avatars....hes in some big trouble 😉
more oppinions plz? help zakee out a bit?
🙂
gawd i have so much hw to do...atot is a curse

Well if you are worried about heat and such I would go ahead and do it, you already voided the warranty by overclocking so why not. Of course you could go all out and try some watercooling.

watercooling isnt an option for, way too $$$ then im willing to spend with no guarenteed results. and i voided my warenty by flashing many bioses, replacing stock paste with AS5, overclocking and uh....i think thats it.

i wouldn't bother, ya got an ultra clock now and i didn't see any great improvement with the silencer but my cards run cool in my case i guess, 42 idle 60 under rbhtl or whatever it is. thats at 380/1080 (highest i can go, i'm cpu limited anyway so i run it at stock speeds anyway). if i had to do it again, i'd try the evga copper or just use the stock cooling.

btw, i know you have used alot of different drivers, do you see temp differences betweeen them? my idle on one driver 71.20 i think went up like 8c idle? wuld that make sense? i use 66.76 now

I got the silencer to replace my stock cooler, but then again I didn't have the ultra cooler, and I was more concerned with noise anyway. I don't know if any of these would significantly drop your temps, as the ultra cooler is already pretty beefy, but if noise is at all an issue, than the silencer or zalman are both quieter solutions.
