Should Yoyo and I get a puppy?

So this puppy is up for adoption at the humane society in our hometown, which is about an hour away from where we are now. I was checking out the site and saw this puppy, and fell in love with it. I'm for getting the puppy, Yoyo's undecided, but leaning towards no (depending on what our roommates say). Yoyo said we should ask Anandtech what to do...

We're in college, but living in a house off campus with a backyard that allows pets (we'd have to pay a little more each month, though), and we plan on staying here next year, too.

The puppy is an 8 week old male German Shepherd/Chinese Shar-Pei mix and is described as low maintenance (it's not a very active dog).

And it's adorable! Puppy! What do you think?

2. what happens after you live in this house? are you going home for the summer?

 
I'd stay away from a puppy if you have a roommate and are college students. I'm out of college and still think a puppy would be too much for us. Instead we picked up an older dog who already was trained and such.

Just think, you'll be saving the life of an animal that may be killed because very few people look for adult dogs.

1. As long as it didn't have any unusual health problems, vet bills and food and stuff wouldn't be a problem.
2. I'm planning on staying in the house for the summer (Yoyo might go home to work, but I want to get a job here).

mine was rescued from a shelter. save an a adult dog.

Just house train the dog and you will be fine. Teach it to not go into certain rooms.

Cuteness only goes so far. Be sure you're completely ready for the responsibility of a puppy. They control you in a lot of ways and your schedule will revolve around taking care of your dog. You will realize that very quickly.

Plus, you have a roomate/boyfriend that has very expensive equipment and a puppy is not going to know any better and pee all over it. Thats not very fair to Yoyo when he also has something he cares very much about.

If you're still in college, then you have your whole life ahead of you to own a puppy. Don't forget you could potentially be comitted to it for the next 10-15 years.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm a cat person, so all I can contribute is "get a cat" they're easy to take care of. Puppies require much more time, time you probably don't have ATM.

Oh, I forgot to mention that patience is usually not a womans most adoring quality, so Yoyo, no matter what I say to your woman will probably go in one ear/eye and out the other.
 
i would say no. as a friend of mine got one, still in college.. roommates.. yeah, at first everyone seemed ok, but after a while, not so much. I love dogs to death, but I just could never care for one, don't have the time or more importantly, space.
