My fiancee is getting a shuttle bus ride from JFK airport in NYC to Stamford, CT for about $65... is she supposed to give a tip afterwards?

One should tip the van driver a couple bucks, especially if he takes any checked-sized bags from the curb to the van at the airport and from the van to the door upon arrival, and then give at least a buck a bag tip.

P.S.: What a bunch of cheapskates on ATOT!!!

If your paying 65$ for a ticket there is no need to tip. Its like tipping a greyhound bus driver.

Agreed. I always tip the free shuttle drivers when we stay at Park-n-Fly hotels, because they provide a service to us at no charge to us.

If I have to pay for a shuttle, even though that money goes to the company and the driver gets a wage, I rarely tip. I MIGHT tip a couple of bux for handling the suitcases, but if I pay a high rate like the OP, nah...it ain't gonna happen.

WTF? What do you think is the difference between the driver of the free shuttle and the pay shuttle?

I used to. But the fees to park at the airport lots have gotten so outrageous I quit. Uh, obviously I'm talking about the ride from the lot to the airport and vice-versa.

How much it costs me.

There is no law that says I HAVE to tip anyone. I can pick and choose who I tip and how much.

I never tip anyone who asks for a tip.
Yesterday a cabbie asked how much tip I am going to give him, I said give me all of my change. :D
Actually after going to China and having cabs cost 10x less with no tips, it's going to be hard to get used to tipping cabbies again ;)

Agreed. However, your manner of tipping goes against generally accepted tipping etiquette. You do not have to follow etiquette, but I figured OP was asking about generally accepted tipping etiquette.

So, should your boss not give you a raise because you ask for one?

I always try to remember that people who normally receive tips are paid a rate that reflects that fact. And, no matter where we are now in our lives, we all relied on the kindness of strangers at one time (especially those of us who worked as waiters) and may again in the future.

Karma is a bitch.
