Should you pay for a female friends meal?

Say a lunch or dinner out with them. I am just wondering about a friend who you want to catch up with. Not a girlfriend or prospective one. Does it matter how close this friend is?

Of course, this would be a meal for 2. I wouldn't imagine paying for a girl with others around would I?

That's a tough one, it depends on how close you are to her (I don't mean sexually).

I sometimes pay for my friends meal, only when I'm feeling generous which is seldom.

Friends can buy friends meals, gifts, or anything else, male or female; just be careful with the female friends by not making it common or constant.

Only if you would feel comfortable with her paying for you. If it's platonic, you need to keep it on equal terms, otherwise you send mixed signals.
I sometimes pay for my friends food, and then they pay for mine some other time. No problem with that.

if you're going to go out for lunch with them again, couldn't hurt to offer to pick up the tab this time?

It realy depends on how well off you are. If you can afford it then what the heck. If you are poor then you can't but don't worry about it. It feels good to treat someone from time to time with no strings attached.

If I invite I pick up the tab,if I'm invited my friend is picking up the tab. There are exceptions of course, like for expensive concert tickets or vacations or for friends who are constantly inviting me to do things,in those cases we go dutch.

It would be nice to offer...do it in a slick way though, as in "It's cool [Girl's name], I got it."

If she's a normal person, she'll say "No, it's okay"

You pretend to argue for 10 seconds then let her pay her share...and all is well :)

I have a weak heart...I will pay for nearly every meal (girl or guy)...

I used to pick up tab for our group tooooooooooooo many times last semester (Spent nearly $8k on food for 4 months :( )

But if it is a girl, I always insist.

Exactly right.
