Should you be able to win a Grammy with a cover song?

I couldn't believe No Doubt was nominated for "It's My life". Jeez, they didn't even change much of the song and kept the synth chord and everything.

It just shocked me that a band could win a Grammy for a song they didn't even write and that somebody else had already performed.

What's worse is Ray Charles winning something like 9 Grammys. Give me a break. He wouldn't have won one if it wasn't for the movie.

And his death. I don't understand that kinda stuff either

well because industry award shows are both masturbation and entertainment.

WINNAR!
Honestly, besides the artists themselves, and the mindless drones that listen to said artists, who cares about these types of award shows.

ALERT: the commercial music industry is a farce and a joke!

Edit: but I do agree on honoring people like Ray Charles as they truly were talented artists that more often than not, did not get the praise and recognition that they rightfully deserved while they were alive/in their prime. I'd rather see a (dead) Ray Charles win a dozen awards than 99% of the current "talent" claim theirs.

True... but the straightforward answer is that he did put out a new album in 2004, called Genius Loves Company (the award honors standouts from the just-completed year).
