Yep, women should be required just as men are. You can spin it anyway you want but if women want equality in this world they have to take on the same responsibilities in this respect as men do. I know many women have lost their lives for this country, but it isn't about losing lives. It is about going forward and doing the respectful thing and serving your country just as this male would. Let's see the feminist groups come forward and say this......right.....

<< no way should women be eligible for a draft.......just not right.....imagine if women were in combat in Vietnam and were captured.....if you think some of the stories that McCain and other POW's tell are bad.....can you imagine?

"Only if they're given equal opportunity when it comes to pay, jobs, and recognition in the military, which is not the case right now" Also well put...
>>

At least nowadays they're trained, or at the least told, that they will probably tie them down and get raped, etc. My friend who has been to AF Survival/E&E school says that women are trained and almost raped, to simulate the kind of treatment they would get :-\

kamiam,

I wish there was some way to speak more slowly in the forum, but since there isn't, I don't know what I can do to make myself any clearer. If you did not understand the point I was trying to make from my earlier post, then perhaps it is beyond your comprehension, or more likely, beyond your desire to comprehend.

It doesn't have to be imagined. The woman soldier who was captured by the Iraqis was raped. The male US soldier who was captured with her witnessed it. Both survived, as have many POWs despite the horrible acts commited against them.

Oh, and speaking of McCain. I don't know if she was there at the same time, but there was at least one female POW kept at the "Hanoi Hilton". Her name was Monika Schwinn. She was a German nurse and she was there for three and a half years.

i'm so sick of ppl saying comments like "i'd like to see a feminist group say that!"

i'm not a feminist and i agree, it should be required for females too. and i'm willing to bet that there isn't a single feminist group out there who would disagree. in fact, i'm sure they'd be the last to disagree.

I didn't know what the position of the feminist groups was either, but after finally finding something, apparently neither did the guys talking about them.

NOW is the only feminist group I could think of, so I checked their site and found this:

<< BE IT RESOLVED, that NOW opposes the reinstatement of registration and draft for both men and women. NOW's primary focus on this issue is on opposition to registration and draft. However, if we cannot stop the return to registration and draft, we also cannot choose between sisters and brothers. We oppose any registration or draft that excludes women as an unconstitutional denial of rights to both young men and women. And we continue to oppose all sex discrimination by the volunteer armed services. >>

Talk is cheap. When was the last time you heard of a feminist group lobbying Congress for women to be drafted right along side males? And why is it that women have to be considered equal in the 'good' respects before they could be drafted. Doesn't seem quite fair to me. Equality comes rolled into one, you shouldn't get the good before the bad.

You know what's really unfair? None of the women who served in Desert Storm were allowed to receive combat pay. They weren't eligible for combat ribbons or medals. I'm not absolutely positive about this next one, but I don't think their beneficiaries were allowed to receive the death benefit for the survivors of soldiers killed in combat.

Wow, if this is true then this is definitely wrong.

<< moralpanic,

Because of that, they don't get the full respect of the men in uniform. A man may have to salute a woman officer, but most do not respect her in the same way that they do a male officer because in the back of their mind they're thinking, yeah right, she's not a real soldier. She's never been and never will be on the front line like me.

Let women in the military have the opportunity to earn the same respect as their fellow soldiers.
>>

Well dammit, then give the women M16s, and have them fight on the front lines...

I'm no less concerned about taking male deaths than I am female deaths, both suck, but women should get the same choices... If she wants to drive a tank or be a marine, good for her...

the reason women are not drafted is simple...

they are not allowed in combat.

in training they can only complete 1/3 of that of a man, at the most 1/2. a large portion of women are put on crutches after doing 2/3 of the running...

it takes hundreds of thousands to train a soldier. we want to spend the money on the best soldiers we can have. it would be a waste to spend the money on those who can't even the finish the training, especially in peace time where we are low on cash military wise. if we were in a major war then i exspect all would be taken. but now the money would just be wasted.

military traing is hard for men, and without the high levels of testostrone that men have, women don't have the biological equipment to adapt.

Who cares, if they want in, let them in...

Women now fly F-16s, they fly bombers, they can do anything but shoot an M16 at the bad guys...

Dammit, give the girls some guns... Let them have at it...

Nothing is more dangous than a pissed-off woman with a gun... :)

The men may be stronger, but rest assured you don't want to cross the latter... Is it bad for your health... :)

your forgetting the fact that in war your life depends on the person beside you. if they can't keep up it could mean your death.

I know several women I would be willing to trust with my life...

Plenty of women can keep up with the men... Just give them all the same set of standards, whoever passes can go shoot the guns... :)

I think its a good idea to make women eligible for combat. They should be grouped into platoons based on their4 monthly time....and then deployed accordingly. No man stands a chance against sucha woman......haha

kdn...
