"But Jesus was saying, "Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing." Luke 23:34

Is this correct? Do we forgive the actions of these terrorists? These cowards, if you will? I don't know what to think right now, I have anger, saddness, hatred and more all cobbled up.

We must forgive them, but it doesn't say not for them to go without punishing.

"Discipline is a form of mercy"

It is no longer is revenge, but just protection of our families.

i'm not a biblical scholar by any means, but isn't that saying that God will forgive them? not necessarily that we should.

the bible teaches than these men will get their punishment when they die, and its not our job to punish them, but God who will decide their punishment

Hmmm.
There's a lot of fiction out there. Why should "listen to" the bible more than any others?

Perhaps Frodo really did travel to Mount Doom with Gandalf to throw the Ring of Invisibility into the Magma pits.

It's about as likely as the bible being true.

So no we shouldn't believe the bible. Those f*ckers are going to get it.

I agree with you bigdog 100%, though I still find it hard to forgive those bastards. I think they need to be skinned alive ... in public.

God got us in this position - why would we want to consult the Bible?

(remember: everything they do they believe is an order from God)

Some people say there is no God, because things like this happen. I say in my opinion there is, because of the little miracles that come out of things like this. And as for the bible, I don't think God would want us to tolerate this, at all. But none of us knows for sure anyway, until we are dead, and by then, we ain't telling anyone else. ;)

Well, I think that we need to forgive what was done to us, but never forget. We should also impose punishment for what was done. Crimes cannot go unpunished, including mass murder. I don't believe that the Bible tells us to let this sort of thing slide though.

I do believe that we should be praying for our enemies. I've been praying for them since this happened. I've prayed that they will see the error of their ways and come to know God in the form of Christ Jesus. If they repent, they will join other Christians in the kingdom of heaven. However, accepting God will not protect them from earthly punishment. The Bible says to pray for your enemies (anyone who you are angry with or who is angry with you) because it will heap coals on their heads. The coals refer to coals used to forge metal, essentially telling us that our prayers can bring about change in our enemies.

You guys can flame me all you want, or call me stupid or whatever. However, I believe that the best thing I can be doing is praying for these people, and of course our country and all who were affected by this tradegy.

I think we need to take this in context. As individuals we must forgive and forget. We must not take our hatred out on other ethnic groups that reside in our country nor should we take justice into our own hands. As a nation however we must act collectively in seeking out and punishing those who commited these great crimes to prevent such incidents in the future. In this case the differnce between the individual and the state protecting it's members must be made.

No. If the "Bible" or "God" can forgive anything of this nature, then I shall simply discontinue what little I believe of them..

I agree with HanPan and Ryan

The bible says doesn't say to not do anything and to forget, it says to forgive. But justice and discipline is a form of mercy and forgiveness.

But I do not feel that they should be killed. Just punished in some way

geez, talk about taking scripture out of context.

how about this scripture? "thou shall not murder." well they just murdered tens of thousands of innocent civilians. and i feel God will use the United States and our allied nations to deliever punishment/justice.

Wow, thanks guys.

I do want to qualify what I have said. When I said not to forget, I meant to not forget what has happened in the fear that it could happen again. We shouldn't hold a grudge after justice has been served.
