Should we give up on trying to buy this car?

2001 Volvo V70

We drove it, we love it. Silver on black leather. 43k miles and clean as a whistle. Stickered at $17995. We offered $17k otd, they said no. We offered $18k otd, they said the best they could do was $17650 + tax/lic. Total would come to about $194xx. This was yesterday.

What bums us out, is we like the car enough to pay that, yet we really don't want to pay sticker on it. They claim to be in to the car for $17k, which I think is bs. They got it off auction, as it's a NY car and $17k at auction seems crazy. Seems to me if they wanted $18k for it, they should've stickered it at $20k.

We got our loan for $17k already done, will be funded on thursday. We don't want to go out of pocket much more than that.

What sucks is, we're trying to move on and look for other cars. But everything we look at sucks compared to it...

Saab's 92-X wagon can be hand for around $6,000 off MSRP, meaning you can get a fully loaded one for about $20,000. A better deal than a Volvo with 43K miles. Plus, I personally llike the looks of the Saab more anyway.

Wow, $17k for a used car? I'll never pay more than $5000 for a used car, but then again next car I buy I'm buying new.

Edit: Whatever you do, do NOT buy that car at $17k. See the problem is that my tricks only work on new car lots, not used car lots. Are you 100% positive you don't want a new car? If you change your mind, PM me, and I'll give you some useful info.

That is very nice, but out of our range 🙁

You'll enjoy the car! Call up and find out other cars in nearby dealerships that are similar and ask for a better rate, then go back to these guys with it

volvo's are every bit as reliable, maybe even more. there were million-mile volvos before there was a million-mile honda.

i own a honda. it's a great car. but volvos just. don't. die. that said, i have my doubts about post-ford designs. luckily the V70 still uses the Volvo-designed inline-5.
