Which "economists" think that way amdfanboy?

how would getting rid of minimum wage help people making minimum wage? There's always someone out there desperate enough to do the job for less

Google is good. Text

Many think it causes unenployment. My answer is yes, but if you can't afford anything, what is the point of working?

I remember a few years ago when they were talking about how bad it would be to
do away with the minimum wage at work and the boss said
"which of you guys are making only minimum wage?" They
had to shut up because most of us made at least $10 to $12 hour
plus excellent benefits and that was several years ago 🙂

Do you work for minimum wage amdfanboy?

<-- Is curious 🙂

No.

The Minimum Wage Laws were originally passed to deter "slave labor" by making "substandard wages paid for standard work" illegal.

That's not to say sweatshops still dont' exist. Those $150 Air Michael Jordan Vick Nike sneakers you're wearing were undoubtably made by some 11 year old in a NYC sweatshop working for exactly 1.432 stale Big Macs per day. 🙁

But that's why those type places were labeled "Sweatshops" many years ago, denoting their illegality.

No, if we get rid of the Minimum Wage, we'll go back to the Feudal Lords/Serfs days.

I can't imagine how someone can live independently in this country making only $5.25 an hour.

Not every workplace has people working at minimum wage. So your boss' point?

And to the OP...

No, there will always be people willing to work for anything.

Actually, close to 90% of economists do, which is pretty amazing considered how tied economists are to colleges.

its 5.15, and pretty much no one does

the largest category of people thrown into 'minimum wage' are waiters, and of course they aren't really making $5.15 or less. the next biggest category is high school students.

His point was that these guys were all excited about the minimum wage deal
and we are all paid WAY over whatever the minimum wage is.

I believe in pure capitalism. Government has no place in deciding what a business should pay it's employees.

P.S. I despise unions as well.

If we ended up removing minimum wage then we would revert back the the 1800s and early 1900s (my dates might be a little off) where there were wage slaves that made just enough to survie and had 0 savings. Minimum wage was put in to help the poor, even though there are people willing to do it for less, having a minimum there to prevent further stratification of the socia classes is vital.

It's America. People can always get an education to advance themselves. If they don't want to work hard to do better than they deserve to be destitute.

So you believe in fair trade and allowing people to do want they want, but when people get together so they have power equal to large companys it isn't right?😕

Unions don't put forth good faith efforts with companies. They strike and stall company productivity. The companies should fire all of them, ban unions from the company and hire new employees. Plus unions perpetuate laziness and a bad work ethic. It can also be argued quite well that they are funnels for icash to the Democratic party.

Profits are more important than people!

People don't matter unless they are fetuses. Government has no place regulating people outside of the womb but inside the womb is clearly government jurisdiction.
