I pulled my old Dell 8250 out of storage after almost two years and was wondering if this system will run Vista pretty well. I would imagine so as it has a ton of ram and a decent processor..but your opinions would be welcome. I normally do e-mail, web browisng, a lto of photoshop, and web development, along with office work.

Dell 8250
PIV 2.4ghz
1.5gig RDRAM
Nvidia Quadro 700 XGL with 64 mb of ram
Hercules Fortissimo II sound Card
Add on USB 2.0/Firewire card
CD Burner and DVD Drive
200gig Western Digital Hard Drive of some sort

The graphics chip is based on the Geforce4 line; it only supports features from DirectX8. One would think that this would not be an issue, as only the Aero interface requires DX-9 class GPU capability. However it looks like nvidia may not produce drivers for anything less than the Geforce FX line.

Windows Vista Capable GPUs according to nvidia.

Aside from that, your system ought to be golden, it far exceeds all the other requirements for Vista. Vista does include basic drivers for the Geforce4 line apparently, but that may not allow the Quadro4 line to run properly (meaning in anything but VGA mode).

Oh yeah, I don't know about the sound card. The last Hercules driver is from 2003. I've only found one real hardware compatibility listing via Google, and it didn't list the Fortissimo II or the Crystal SoundFusion 2624 it's based on. Vista may or may not have built-in drivers to support it even at its most basic.
