Say a drunk driver is driving home when he gets into an accident and instantly kills the other driver. The drunk driver survives uninjured. The cops show up determine that the drunk driver's BAC level is over the legal limit. Upon looking in the other car, they discover that the other driver was on his way to commit a murder/suicide based on his pre-written suicide note.

See poll.

Ughh.... why the hell should he be congratulated? The other guy wanting to commit suicide has nothing to do with it

I say not congratulated and thrown in jail. The drunk had no idea when he decided to drive drunk he would hit someone like that.

Say a poster on an internet forum, attempting to be deep, creates a shallow and annoying but ultimately harmless thread about some stupidly hypothetical situation and a moderator comes along and not only permabans him from that forum but sends a team of ninja assassins to his workplace to ritually execute him.

Underserved, no? But, say that 27 years later that very same poster, if allowed to live, would have farted in front of the then Queen of England, setting off an international incident between GB and the USA that somehow spirals out of control and leads to an unintentional but deadly nuclear exchange that leaves hundreds of millions of innocent people dead.

Should that moderator be showered with paypal gifts from every forum member in the amount of $100, or only $50?

I'd say it depends on who the person in the car was actually going to kill, no?

Thrown in jail and lose the key. He had no intent to stop the murder/suicide and just happened to hit this driver by pure chance. He deserves no congratulations.

So the TRUE powers of the mod are finally revealed...

Jail...no doubt about it.

And this is a stupid question. It doesn't matter where the driver of the other car was going.

What if you hit someone with your car but when they are taken to the hospital it is found that they have rabies. Did you save their life?

Congratulated and thrown in jail only if the other driver was a pedophile or a serial killer.

You can just end it after the first paragraph.
