Wouldn't that only record after the fact?
If you want accountability, which you don't, it should be when the hands are actually in contact with the grip, or when it leaves the holster.

Badge cameras, button cameras, pin cameras. Cops, civilians, and criminals will all have them soon enough.

It's a general rule of the world that these things tend to develop malfunctions just when they are most needed.

This will just make honest cops pull their guns far sooner than they do now in order to get the camera rolling, and in doing so could easily escalate situations they would previously have handled without drawing their weapon.

A camera on the gun will only record AFTER the gun has been pulled. Everything that happened beforehand is up for debate. Especially in inner cities where the police are already universally hated, all jurors will see is that cop blowing away that poor innocent boy. If it's white on black it's x100. They will not see the full picture and will not care to hear the words of the defense attorney trying to explain what led up to it.

In this scenario every single time an officer discharges his weapon he and the city can expect to be sued unless the entire incident is on tape so his actions can be shown to be just.

The camera should hook onto the uniform somehow and set to start recording when you exit the vehicle. Seems like it would be easy these days.

And that is the way it should be.
As a police office you have LESS of a right to shoot than anybody else, because you are an instrument of the law, and not a private person.

If the populace loses trust in its police force, then a country will descend into anarchy at one point or another.

I don't think we have enough suspicious cop shooting stories to warrant this. There is usually enough evidence pointing to what happened anyway.

And when exactly do you expect Police to NOT use deadly force when joe citizen can?
