Should the words ni--er/n-gga be universally punishable?

After the recent spat of people getting in trouble for saying "racist" stuff like n-gga... Why should it be allowed at all?

If its bad for one race to say it (regardless of context) then why not ban it from all races so theres no double standard.

The context of this applies to the school/work environment. I know there's no way to get passed the social aspects of it, but in school/work, if you can punish one for saying it, why not all?

You can punish all people in a school/work environment.

Those in charge simply choose not to.

Practice what you preach. If you don't want to be called the N word, then don't be calling others the N word.

i don't see why the word is good for one group to use but not another. either make is wrong for everyone or ok for everyone. the whole double standard bs is enough.

Since he's talking about school/work, I'd assume termination, leave without pay, etc. for the work environment and suspension, detention, etc. for school.

You can legislate away active discrimination... you cant legislate away racism...
people are entitled to their opinions, even if they are not socially popular.

As long as we have a constitution of free speech...

burning of the flag...............check
public KKK meeting..............check
saying ****** on live TV.......check

all still legal.

Within the law, a privately owned business can do whatever the hell it wants in regards to policies. Schools can establish rules for the sake of a proper learning environment.

I don't think he's advocating we have speech police going around.

Only if people stop calling us whites. We need to get more PC around here. I'm sick of being called white. It's bad enough I have to tan to be socially accepted in todays anti-white society.

Actually, I encourage this type of behavior. If they want to call themselves whatever it is that they call themselves, I'm all for it, free speech FTW.

Do it more and do it often. ;)

Absolutely not. IMO, that would be wrong on more than way.

edit: Wow, almost 50/50? Do you people honestly believe we should ban a WORD? Do you respect free of speech at all? The whole double standard is a much larger problem that certainly isn't exclusive to this word.

And without even getting into a debate about that, would it really do any good to ban this type of word from school/work? I don't know of any schools/employers that feel that word is appropriate anyway.

edit2: n-gga and ni--er are really not even the same word. I've never heard anyone use the word "n-gga" in a way that's offensive by in itself, nor have I seen anyone punished for saying it. "Ni--er" on the other hand is usually quite offensive and I never hear anyone use it casually. And if they did, they would be "punished" (white or black).

Exactly... i don't care that people say it. I just think that in any situation where a white person can be punished for saying it (work, school, sponsors, etc) then ANYONE who says it should be held accountable in the same situation.
