Should religion be banned from the olympics?

Just as politics and sponsors are banned, shouldn't religion or the display of religion be banned?

This revolves around the Egyptian Judoka who refused to shake hands with the Israeli.

Censoring in the middle east of the female volleyball payers who wore bikinis is another example. Censoring is a political and religious statement.

Shouldn't anything that causes issues with the Olympics be banned? During the 1968 olympics Tommie Smith and John Carlos gave a black power salute and were later expelled from the games.

Is there a real difference between a black power salute and a muslim refusing to shake the hand of an israeli? Shouldn't both be dealt with equally?

I see no need. Refusing to shake hands is all that needs to be seen

I don't need a safe space from this no matter how silly it looks

I agree that politics etc should be out of Olympics.

How about the "Olympic Boycotts", are not they display of the politics at the most definitive form ?

If a country boycotts another country (not compete at the Olympics when the games are held at their foeland) but can go to the next one 4 years later, how is a non-shake of hands a cause of ban ? I guess both actions should have equivalent consequences.

Yes Religion should be banned, this is about human competition and all things mythical should be removed. That includes matters involving Race, Gender, Religion, Politics and Russians. Uniforms should be designed by the Olympic Committee themselves and in order to take part. If they wanna wear cultural or religious clothes they should hold their own games.

That Egyptian should have been tossed out of the Olympics for that disrespect. Gotta send a clear and decisive message to all the people.

No cultural practice should be banned from the Olympics. It seems to me the entire point is bringing together diverse people and cultures in common sportsmanship and competition.

Unsportsmanlike conduct should not be tolerated in sports regardless of why.

Sponsors are banned? What's up with all the Speedo logos on the US swim team?

Do you see coke logos, dr pepper, sears, lowes,,,,, like you do on race cars?

Why should religious discrimination be tolerated?

If a white man refused to shake a black mans hand, the world would be outraged. But discrimination based on religion is ok?

You are saying it is ok to discriminate on the basis of religion?

Just come out and say it. You approve of religious based discrimination.

Yep, let's ban religion from a sporting event that was in honor of the god Zeus.

The Olympic Games, which originated in ancient Greece as many as 3,000 years ago, were revived in the late 19th century and have become the world’s preeminent sporting competition. From the 8th century B.C. to the 4th century A.D., the Games were held every four years in Olympia, located in the western Peloponnese peninsula, in honor of the god Zeus. The first modern Olympics took place in 1896 in Athens, and featured 280 participants from 13 nations, competing in 43 events. Since 1994, the Summer and Winter Olympic Games have been held separately and have alternated every two years.

If this had been a white and black man, the world would be outraged. Liberals sites would be running articles for weeks talking about how racism is alive and well.

But because this is religious based racism nobody wants to touch it.

What they censor and do in the middle east is their business and problem, but when apologist
hypocritical pretend liberals try to censor western culture because in their mind it might offend some muslims then it is a real problem.

Both are wrong but apologists are only outraged over one

They should run the Games as the original ones were, all males compete completely nude.
