Should RAM ALWAYS be able to run in 1T mode?

I was under the impression that all DDR RAM is capable of running in 1T mode. However, my GeIL Value doesn't seem to want to. Whenever I go into the BIOS and try to manually change the command rate from 2T to 1T, I'm greeted by a long beep at the next bootup and have to reset my CMOS. Specs in sig. There is no overclock btw, thanks.

timing? ram timing is what its spec'd. if its 2 its 2. theres no way all ram is capable of 1t. running lower timings is like overclocking. go to mushkin or crucial.com and look at their selection. ram timing varies with price

When was the last time 2x512Mb stick couldn't run at 1T? 1999?

chimpy, provide a link to your memory. I'm almost certain that you should be able to get 1T since you have a Venice.

Mine's the second one down - the 1GB kit. I'll post pics of the BIOS option I'm talking about later on.

I wouldn't worry about it too much to be honest. My OCZ VX is running at 2t and it still hauls. granted it's at 2t because it's overclocked with tight timings, it does happen. That ram should be able to run at 1t but, in my experiences with GEIL, you're not going to get much tech support and an RMA will take a month. sorry.

It looks like a normal dual channel pair and it should go 1T even if its not stated in the spec.
Check othe timings to see if they are not set too tight, check bios revision and finally ask the retailer.

The point is not whether the performance hit of 1t vs 2t is significant. Besides some apps show 2t being up to 10% slower, not in games (about 3%) because the gpu has a heavy influence and mask the deficiency.

Simply ignoring an obvious problem at bog standard setting is sloppy as heck and ridiculous.

And I wish people would be more helpful than simply stating the obvious and useless statements like 'it depends on the manufacturer of the RAM' especially when the OP sig lists the hw.

Ok..

1T or 2T. Command rate is NOT DEPENDENT ON THE STICKS OF RAM. All sticks should run at 1T fine.

This is completely dependent on your memory controller.

Not true. I have a board that will not run 1T using Kingston VR. Works fine with Corsair VS.
