No, the merchant still needs to cover fixed expenses such as rent, utilities, and wages to the staff. By discounting the food, he may not cover his costs.

Restaurant pays waiters and bussers, $2.13 a hour, thats insignificant. It takes 10 seconds for a dishwasher to load up a few plates and put in the machine.

People that dine in usually order beverages which are where the big profit margins are.
