Should power to CCFL Cold Cathode light not be split?

I was curious as to whether a CCFL should have it's own direct molex/connector to the PSU? I have mines connected to the PSU but split it with a secondary hard drive. When I turn it on or off, I think the HD loses power since it clicks and makes weird noises and the system crashes? Or should splitting not affect the HD? Any thoughts on this?

from my experience it shouldnt. my cigarette lighter in my case is on the same power as the hard drive, and i figured it would certainly affect it but it didnt. neither have any cold cathodes i have used. maybe you have a defective cathode ? have another to test ?

What kind of PSU do you have? May not be enough power going through that line.
