Should poor people be mandatorily sterilized?

Seems that people who choose not to work because the government can provide for them, tend to be baby factories - complicated by the fact they get more money per child.

So shouldn't sterilization of both mother and father be a prereq for any freebies?

imo if after the 2nd child you produce more then you recieve NO tax relief or benefit WHATSOEVER from it. No food stamps; diapers, NOTHING.

I say make it a requirement to receive public aid after a certain amount of time. Meaning, if they're living off welfare for 5+years, then do it. Else of course, no. And people have to remember, welfare is a privilege, not a right.

I think if you offered it to them, the vast majority on public assisstance would want birth control as much as you want them to have it. It doesnt need to be forced on them.

1) Yes. There's too much incentive for sponges to have more kids so they can be bigger sponges.

2) Nobody should be on public assitence for more than 2 years. Welfare should be a chance to turn your life around, not a way of life.

3) Anyone that wants public money should work for it. Instead of a freebie welfare check at least force the recipients to do something useful for the money. Sweep streets, pick up trash, deliver mail, whatever. Let them give Uncle Sam 40 hours a week in exchange for the cash, maybe they'll learn there's no such thing as a free lunch.

In what possible scenario could someone have so much, then in such a short period of time be forced to live off the government indefinitely?

Actually, welfare is an entitlement. You cannot be turned down if you meet the minimum requirements.

The point is that if you are going to live off of my dime, you have given up various rights, among them being the right to procreate.

I am capable of making the decision to avoid having children until such time as I am reasonably able to care for them from a financial perspective.

Why should I have to foot the bill for those who cannot make the same simple decision?

I don't mind welfare as way to "get back on your feet," but for too many it's a way of life. Unless you were not on welfare at the time you got pregnant, you should not be permitted to both have more children AND be on welfare at the same time.

But I agree with Amused anyway - the best bet is to do away with it altogether.

How do you know that? Have you ever talked to a homeless person? Have you ever inquired about his situation?
