Should our older citizens be reqired to pass a driving exam?

Don't you find it kinda creepy how the old people run down the young people whose transplanted organs are keeping them alive so they can continue to operate their motor vehicles ... ?

A resounding YES!!!!

In my family, we've taken the keys away from the old ones when it got to the point that we knew good old Abuelo or 80-some-odd year old Tia shouldn't be driving. The state would just keep renewing their licenses, but we knew it ws wrong.

Heh, Larry Niven wrote some good Organ Banks stories: the Gil the ARM stories in which the old have passed laws to make more and more crimes punishable by death & involuntary harvesting. And one story in which the old have made donations of your "extra" kidney (or other "spare" parts) mandatory even for law-abiding citizens.

Yep, we need a hard driving test for the old, and random booze/drug testing for the young 😀

Yes. A local 91 year-old man just killed a young 20's woman and her infant child recently because he was driving on the sidewalk. The police haven't filed charges :|

edit: Link
The mother and daughter died a day later, but I couldn't find that link.

edit2: btw, zenobijuan, welcome to AT 🙂

Not only that, but these 16 year old punks need to be taken off the road. If you have not grown hair on your balls you should not be able to drive.

I was so proud of my Grandmother, she handed me the keys to her car at 70 when she said she couldn't apply enough brake anymore. She is 87 now.

The problem with what happened with the guy in Califorinia was that they think he had a heart attack, that can happen at any age.

how about bi or tri annual exams for ALL drivers?

I would be all for this, but the DMV (or whatever they are called now) run everything bass ackwards and it is a nightmare to go there. Usually have to take a day off work just to get something done there.

Uh, any tuckfard can pass a driving exam. How about making them harder and not just give them out like people have a right to have one.

Exactly! Pretty much anyone who can start a car is allowed to drive.

The police should also spend more time ticketing offenses besides speeding.

Unless the entire DMV system is revamped, this would friggin collapse entire cities. On any given day, there would be 500,000 people visiting the DMV for road tests. Mucho badness.

I don't think annual tests are required, they should just have official tracks/areas where various dangerous situations could be simulated to see how the driver would react, rather than the leisurely cruise around the block I had to take for my test.

no they should not be required to take a test and i see nothing wrong with 16 year old punks driving. I used to be one and it was fun pushing pedal to the medal and at the age of 22 i still do it

Absolutely, and I'm quite close being one myself.
There should also be some kind or stricter re-testing for people with multiple tackets/accidents.

I have no problems with yearly exams. I'll even judge them all myself!

"You all fail, I'm the only one allowed to drive... woot!"

😛

Yet people wonder why insurance is so high for male drivers until the age of 25.

to me your example of having hair on your balls as a requirement to drive is as stupid as the age laws associated with driving and everything else. As a 16 year old driver I drove better then my two older sisters and my mom, all of which have had their licenses a long time. Granted they were typical asian girl drivers, and I'm pretty sure I had hair on my balls at the age of 16, but anyways yeah the tests should be much harder to pass and the drunk driving/recklass driving laws harsher

Holy crap, if your postcount wasn't so high I'd be convinced you're a troll. You always seem to post garbage that you know no rational person would agree with.

Examples:
"It's fun driving 100 mph and weaving in and out of traffic"
"They're shooting a movie near my house tomorrow... how can I mess with them?"
"Can I get away with driving with no license plates so cameras at stop lights can't get me?"
"8 inch deep puddles? Floor it! Traction control will kick in and you'l be fine."
"What's wrong with having your first job at 23? I'm 22 and have never worked a day in my life."

And come on, you're 22 years old, LEARN TO SPELL. You're an idiot. It's people like you who make people wish that teenagers weren't allowed to drive. I know a lot of very responsible teenagers who deserve to be able to drive, but people like you aren't fit to have a license even at 22.
