You won't see much differnece if you upgrade using win98se. If you where using win2k I would defently recommend 256megs of ram.

I got 256megs of ram for one reson. It was so cheep.

if you move alot of big graphic files then 256Mb(or more if you can accomodate/afford it) should help things along nicely. apart from that you won't see much difference.

I've got 384 MB in my machine. Win98 there is no difference. Windows 2000 seems to handle intensive photoshop much better though

If you can find another 128MB of RAM at a cheap price, then I would say get it. You know you'll eventually need it, whether you upgrade to Win2k down the road, or that "next great game" comes out that runs so much prettier with 256MB and you just have to have it. In the end, you know you're going to buy it anyway, so why not just take the plunge now (if you can find a cheap price, that is).

Damn with RAM as cheap as it is why not get 384MB? That's what I did.

You won't notice to terribly much difference in Win98SE, but in Win2000 you will, and the next version of Windows is going to be 2000 based.

rams cheap right now..just go ahead and and it..over time youll need it eventually anyways...as software gets more and more complex....so are the demands on the system.

I just upgraded my 128megs to 256 this week. In Win2k, there has been a nice speed increase in opening applications as well as multitasking.

Go for it, its cheap and it is not going to hurt you. Plus if you have 256 you can try the CFSU=1 hack.

CSFU = ConservativeSwapFileUsage

Do a search on it. Supposedly, setting the value to 1 in the [386Enh] section of your system.ini file will reduce Windows98 usage of a swap file in favour of faster physical RAM. Advisable for those with 256MB or more. I have not done before & after tests to check the difference but some swear by it.

P.S. Oh yeah, get more RAM.
