Should "Off Topic" posts go towards the members overall post count?

This is a new concept.

Who cares one way or the other.

Yes. There are intelligent, interesting and worthwhile discussions that go on in ATOT.

/me fails to mention that they only come along once every three months.

Well I work as a tech and visit tech forums, including Anandtech's and frankly sometimes I want something different for the sake of variety. ATOT offers that and I don't care one way or the other if my post count goes up or not.

Why does postcount mean anything anyway? If you're really trying to go for a "record" number of posts then there's something wrong with you, IMHO. I only post when I feel like posting, either in someone's thread or when starting my own. I don't post just to increase postcount! 😉

hehe, I've made about 1500 posts over the last week or so, my average daily post count went from around one per day to almost 5.5. You should see my thread here.

I think they should. At least half the time people seem to be contributing thoughtful ideas... er... ok, make that like 10% of the time but that effort should be rewarded. 🙂 Besides, what other forum can you get 30 responses to your thread before you even have time to edit that one spelling mistake?

I vote for completely doing away with post count and classification, for example Lifer. It encourages people to be competitve and hierarchical over nothing.

Merely bringing this up, is this up, is absurd. [/WTF]

Well the reason I brought it up is that the members status within the forum tend to based on how many post they actually do. I was sort of under the impression that AT forums were mainly for Hardware Junkies etc. Now, don't get me wrong the Off Topic Forum is amsuing to say the least but when an "Elite" member is advising you on lets say hardware issues you would like to think the members "rank" is an indication of how helpful and knowledgeable they are, not how many posts they can muster in Off Topic.

It was just a thought thats all. 😉
