Should Nvidia 590 be avoided until further notice.

What with the exploding cards, the end of overclocking and the end of overvolting, is it time to call time on Nvidia's 590?
Who here would buy a 590 rather than a 6990 if they had the money and the choice right now?

End of overclocking? Huh?

Couldnt this be in one of the several 590 threads going?

I am guessing about > 99% of people will be avoiding both cards due to price alone...

I'd still pick the 590 over the 6990. I already own a nvidia 3D setup and even at stock clocks the 590 is a very powerful setup. Amd isn't even an option for me anymore. I like gaming in nvidia 3d.

Redundant thread is redundant, but anyway:

If you prefer nvidia, don't have an SLI motherboard, want SLI performance, and are happy with performance at stock speed then I see no reason not to buy a 590.

Would you be saying this if the 6990 were the one causing explosions in high end test rigs all over the world?

Number should be >99.9% imho.

Yeah I cancelled my order and I'm waiting until I make sure it won't explode and burn my house down.

I dont think it needs to be avoided. Anyone that would want to overclock a 590 or a 6990 for that matter, just does it for e-peen. Just like most enthusiasts. I wouldn't worry about it.

If I wanted one, Id buy today. Point is...no reason to avoid.

And to my knowledge, these cards never actually "exploded" as in flew to pieces. Burn, fry, bad vrm....still...not exploded.

But...Wonder what a GTX590 would look like exploding, flying in bits and pieces, rendered by Nvidia Physx ? ;)

They are one step ahead of you. Nvidia has already introduced the GTX 590 ready FTW case. It's made out of all fireproof materials. Case is made with 1" thick stainless steel and the clear side panel is made of bulletproof glass to protect from flying pcb shrapnel.

It's true that adding thermite to the heatsink fins and using gasoline as the cooling fluid wasn't the wisest design choice. Some might even raise an eyebrow at using detcord for the fan wiring. The PETN-infused fan shroud is quite lovely though.

is it time to call time?..what?

Also, theres a factual topic made by Grooveriding where this is discussed, no need to spread it to a hundred topics. Especially if we can keep the topic derailment and fanboy stuff out of it.
