Should nonaccredited schools be able to call themselves universities?

Should any organization that considers itself a school be able to call itself a university/college, or should there be more specific definitions for these words so that only an accredited school can call itself a university/college?
For example there's Patriot Bible University where Kent Hovind graduated.

Should nonaccredited schools be able to call their diplomas Bachelor/Master Degrees? Should schools with only one or two faculty members be able to issue PhDs?

Not worth the money to legislate it, but I'd say that University should only mean accredited.

But the university you cited is accredited by the American Accrediting Association of Theological Institutions from Rocky Mount, NC.

'Course that isn't recognized under GAAP, but most religious accreditors wouldn't meet GAAP, as they are more concerned with doctrinal correctness than academic rigor.

It sure would be nice to have a guarantee that all academic degrees were earned in consistent manner, but I don't see that happening anytime soon, unfortunately.

Your question is a little ambiguous. Many accredited universities have non-accredited programs. I have a degree in Computer Engineering from a state technical university. When I graduated, I was in the second graduating class for that program. At that time it was unaccredited. The curriculum is unchanged, and is now accredited. Do I have a real degree?
