should my 1.33 athlon take this long to complete a WU in Seti?

I assume you're running the GUI, or screensaver version? If so, if you want to improve your times, the best way to do so is to start using the command-line, or CLI version of the program. That's the easiest way to improve your times, and you can find a link to that, and other SETI programs, here. Also, serialb has created a "Quick Guide" to optimising SETI.

Non-SETI related ways to improve SETI performance:
- running Win2K helps performance
- SETI loves memory bandwidth, so if you're already overclocking, a higher FSB would help out
- if you're not already overclocking, that can be a way to improve your times as well

Yes the GUI version is pretty slow. But sometimes it does take a long time for WU's, 3 of my machines are working on some low angle ones. 21 hours----25 hours----27 hours. these are machines that will do normal work units in 10 to 12 hours.

To give you an idea of what you can expect from your Athlon 1.33 GHz machine, compare to mine:

I'm running a AMD Tbird 1000@1300 (10x 130fsb), 512meg PC133 ram CAS2, CLI client. Avg wu is 5h32m; some may get better speeds, but I do use the rig for gaming too, so that cuts into the production a bit. :D

You'll definitely notice a HUGE performance increase by using the CLI client over the GUI/screensaver version - and don't feel bad - I didn't start using the CLI client till after my first 600 units! ;)

Hi HOWITIS, Welcome to the Team. :)

Ia'm running a 1.2 @ 1.3 on an older KT-133 (12 @ 110 ). A good 20 to 25 min. slower then networkman's 1.3 at 10 @130. So FSB helps.

Until last Wednesday, I was running the gui version. I didn't even know about the cli version until I joined TA. My systems would run wu's with the gui version in about 15-20hrs. With cli, the same systems now run wu's in about 5-8hrs.:)

HOWITIS, Check this thread and you might find a system close to yours to compare the times running the CLI.

Welcome to the TeAm! :)
