In Europe, or at least in Germany, movie theater seating is assigned. I personally think it'd be a great idea, as it will allow movie theaters to fully maximize seating, prevent those douchebags from saving 8 seats at a time for friends who won't be there for half an hour, know you'll be guarenteed to sit next to your friends if you're in a somewhat large group..and generally operate much more efficiently. It would also prevent mad mobs rushing into theaters trying to get the best seats, or line cutting for the same reason.
Does anyone even know how theaters consider a show to be sold out? It can't possibly be that every seat has been sold, as there's no way people will fill every single seat when it's just first come first serve.
They have assigned seating at plays/musicals, sporting events, concerts generally, and a bunch of other venues out there..so why not for movie theaters? I really can't think of a reason why we shouldn't.
